As organizational structures become more complex, decentralized, and global, leadership skills need to evolve. In my work as a leadership coach over the past two decades one blind spot seems to be most prevalent for senior leaders trying to transition to the next level — lack of focus on peer-to-peer and cross functional relationships.

Most leaders, when participating in 360 degree feedback, are surprised by the lack of understanding and support from their peer group. Perhaps this observation is a direct correlation to the minimal time spent on developing peer relationships.
