The At-Home Media Interview Checklist by De'Andre Brown

Since governors across the country issued state-wide mandates for people to stay at home and practice social distancing, mainstream news sites have had to find alternative ways to conduct media interviews. Reporters are doing interviews from home, using digital technology like Zoom, Skype, and even Facetime to bring you the news.

A couple weeks ago, my colleagues and I participated in our first Zoom media interview to discuss our “Fortify our Frontlines” initiative. Additionally, LMD’s non-profit partner Bernadette’s House was interviewed via Zoom to talk about how the organization took its in-person program for at-risk girls online in the wake of COVID-19.

At first, I was a bit hesitant because technology can be unpredictable; however, the interviews went off without a hitch. I put together this check-list of tips that you can use so that your next at-home media interview is a success. These tips aren’t just for media interviews—they can help make your next virtual meeting a success, too. Just be sure to check these 10 boxes.
