Commission on Systemic Interoperability

Government  |  Print & Electronic Publications
(Web, Collateral)

About the Client

The Commission on Systemic Interoperability (CSI) was authorized by the Medicare Modernization Act and established by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Its members were appointed by President George W. Bush and the U.S. Congress. The Commission held its first meeting in January 2005 with the goal of developing a strategy to make healthcare information instantly accessible at all times, by consumers and healthcare providers. CSI partnered with LMD to develop a report that would present the culmination of the Commission's research and final recommendations for a far-reaching, integrated electronic health network. The final report was to be published both in print and electronically.

Challenge

  • Communicate the "patient case" for healthcare interoperability in an engaging, accessible, non-technical manner.

  • Inform a wide variety of constituent groups about the importance of healthcare interoperability, including consumers, healthcare providers, government leaders, and the healthcare industry.

  • Recruit champions for healthcare interoperability among these audiences.

Solution

  • Designed, edited, and created print-ready files for the 200+ page book.

  • Designed and developed an interactive CD.

  • Designed and developed the online version of the report, www.endingthedocumentgame.gov.

Outcome

In October 2005, the Commission released the final report, Ending the Document Game: Connecting and Transforming Your Healthcare Through Information Technology to the office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the United States Congress for action upon its recommendations. Every member of the United States Congress, as well as key officials at all government agencies and within the White House, received a copy of the report.
