The University of Maryland's School of Music is recognized as one of the top music programs in the nation. Housed in the stunning Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the school includes nationally and internationally recognized performers and scholars among its faculty and artists-in-residence.
Challenge
Redesign the look of the School of Music's website to elevate the school to a level footing with its private university and conservatory competitors.
Build the site using an architecture that aggregates and organizes a vast amount of information about the school's many programs and faculty.
Solution
Improved readability of and access to the site's large amount of information through thoughtful, logical navigation and hierarchy.
Leveraged the University of Maryland's reputation as one of the nation's leading public research universities by utilizing the university's color palette to brand the site closely to the university, yet maintaining a distinct look-and-feel that embodies the spirit of music, performance, and the arts.
Offered an "entertainment" element by incorporating a Flash movie introduction.
Incorporated an online multimedia experience through mp3, video, and photo galleries.
Outcome
Website received a Gold Summit Award.
Technology
This site was developed using LMD's e2 Website Framework. Written in PHP, this framework allows sites to be deployed on any server supporting PHP. This site features applications for news and importing and filtering the events from the ColdFusion/Oracle-based Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center website. Additionally, this site integrates with the Gallery2 Image Gallery suite.
